Deep Sedation and Analgesia for Non-anesthesiologists

This course is designed to provide a review of important standards for administering deep sedation and analgesia and guidelines for treating, managing and monitoring adult patients in a non-operating room setting. (Pediatric standards are not covered in this course.)

After taking this course staff should be competent to:

Assess whether a patient is an appropriate candidate for deep sedation and analgesia.
Administer drugs to achieve the desired level of sedation and analgesia.
Monitor patients to maintain the desired level of sedation and analgesia.
Detect and manage a compromised airway.
Ensure adequate oxygenation and ventilation.
Rescue a patient should impairment of cardiac and respiratory function occur.
