CREP: Anti-Oppressive Practices

The goal of this anti-oppressive practices training is to increase the capability of NYC Health + Hospitals’ workforce to perform specific activities in anticipation of a decline in hospital demand and a rise in the need for home and community-based services. Racism is a system of oppression that is based on racial categories and domination that designates one group as superior and the other (s) as inferior, and then used these perceived differences to justify inequity, exclusion, or domination. This training provides an overview of how anti-oppressive behavior impacts communities. This increased scope of skills will enable these direct care workers to be effective care team members and will prepare new members to enter the workforce better prepared as part of an ongoing pipeline of workers. The workforce development focus areas presented will improve services inside the hospital and help improve the workforce’s ability to provide care outside of an institutionalized setting.
